A small community where strong bonds between faculty and students are forged, Byrnes challenges its students to pursue and master the most rigorous academic program of which they are capable. Byrnes’ curriculum starts with a simple philosophy: at every level, the school emphasizes academic excellence within a safe, warm and nurturing environment.
The Byrnes Lower School, serves three-year-olds through sixth graders and encourages each child to develop as an independent thinker with a positive self-image. The journey through the Lower School begins with the youngest children developing confidence in the learning process and culminates with older students attaining study and organizational abilities, self-discipline, and time management skills.
The Middle School, seventh and eighth grade, is designed around the needs of children halfway down the road to adulthood. Increasingly independent, middle schoolers need a bridge between the elementary and high schools both academically and emotionally, and the Byrnes Middle School builds this bridge. The Middle School curriculum emphasizes abstract thinking skills and nurtures self-responsibility in the context of five core academic courses: language arts, social studies, mathematics, science, and Spanish.
In the Upper School, grades nine through twelve, Byrnes offers a standard college preparatory slate of classes, including a host of honors and Advanced Placement courses. Byrnes seeks to ensure every graduate is ready for the rigors of higher education. From Freshman Composition to AP Physics, Byrnes students take a solid curriculum which emphasizes the mastery of fundamentals and the pursuit of excellence. In attempting to instill leadership skills, strong moral values, and tolerance for differing perspectives, Byrnes also hopes to prepare every graduate to become a conscientious citizen of his or her community. |
